I'm such a proud momma today

Graham had his first dentist visit today for a teeth cleaning. Now, if you don't know, I have an extreme case of the dentist phobias. In fact, I have had to be drugged several times to see the dentist. So, we both approached the dentist for what it was: business with some fun mixed in. This place is a pediatric dentist, so it is a totally kid-friendly place! There are movies, video games, and a play house in the waiting room. In the back, the kids get prizes (Mostly dino stuff! How did they know??!?!) as they complete "stations" of dental care. But there is a catch. Parents are not allowed to go back with the kids to see the doctor. They put all the kids in one room to treat them, but no parents are allowed - even on the first visit. Graham handled it well - walking right in with the nurse - and I got to sit and read a magazine - a luxury these days ;-) He came out all smiles and showed me his pearly whites.

But he has two cavities :-( so we have to get those taken care of. And the dentist informed me that, according to the X-rays, we might as well start saving for braces. He's got some crowded teeth under the surface just waiting to be locked up for a few years. Oh well, kinda expected it, so I'm gonna love those baby teeth for as long as he has 'em!

After his appointment on the way to school, he told me that they painted his teeth red and he spit three times and brushed his teeth. Funny what he remembered after being in the office for over 45 minutes. I told him we were going to have to go back in a couple of weeks. He told me that maybe next time I should go back with him... because everybody needs help sometimes. How am I supposed to argue with that!!?!?!? I learned later that when his teacher asked him where had had gone that morning he said he couldn't remember but it was "somewhere hard". So, I'm guessing the next visit won't go as smoothly, but I am so proud of my little buddy for going through all that new stuff today all by himself.

And then just now before bed I asked him what his favorite thing in the whole world was and after the obligatory "I don't know" he said that his favorite thing in the world was giving hugs and telling me that he loves me. Where does this kid get it from???? How can I help but love that kid to pieces!

We had the same "braces" comment from the dentist when Kyle was little. We keep waiting for our dentist here to tell us it's time for the orthodontist, but Kyle still hasn't lost all of his baby teeth.
