Finally, the crayons are getting used

The obligatory family portrait. Interesting that G looks like Daddy and W looks like me.

For the LONGEST time Graham would not color. I would even get him coloring books about dinos but to no avail. What kid doesn't like to color? Still, I had a theory about this whole I'm-not-gonna-color attitude. When there was any coloring to be done, Graham would ask me to do it. I would gently encourage him to do it, but in the end I would usually be scribbling my mediocre artwork all over his books. Even at school, where drawing is semi-compulsory, he would either refuse to draw at all or scribble the minimal on a worksheet, never really paying attention to the lines or color. So, my theory: I believe that he didn't like to color because he couldn't get it to look like he wanted it to.

Something has changed recently. Since he has moved to his new daycare class, he has started coloring like crazy. On worksheets he works very hard to stay within the lines. When he draws purely by inspiration, he makes a lot of machines whose parts are connected with lines or that are connected to people by lines. He is also doing something that really blows us away. He has started drawing with both hands, sometimes simultaneously. The other day Nathan watched him draw perpendicular lines with both hands at the same time. We don't even know what to make of this new development. All I know is that we are going through paper like nobody's business and it's kinda fun!

So, here are some of his recent creations. For those who remember, they remind me a little of "circulation blood". (I wish I could remember his explanations of them all.)

Same story with our boys. I kept buying them coloring books, but they hated to color. Then later, they both went through phases of filling pages and pages with drawings of things that interested them. You probably remember Ryan's periodic table obsession.
