The boy is one. I can't believe it. And doesn't he look proud???!!?! He had so much fun at his party. We held it at Ramsey Park where there are two playscapes, swings and a really big slide. The weather was overcast, but warm enough for t-shirts and shorts. I think the threat of rain kept most people home, so the usually bustling park was all ours. We ordered Rudy's barbecue and Nathan smoked some additional turkey for all to try. I made some kid-friendly side dishes and Nathan baked the cake. Everyone enjoyed the food and the company. There were at least 40 people there, including a lot of kids. I was so impressed that Graham didn't melt down once. I think he was digging all the people around and all the attention he was getting.
Graham had his first all out sugar experience. At first he took little pinches of cake. Once the piece got small enough, though, he jammed it in his mouth. It was a pretty dense cake, so I was worried there for a second that it was going to get clogged in there. Silly, momma - does the kid look like a novice at eating??? I think it was really special that the frosting was blue because it made the mess that much cooler looking.
We saved the gift opening for the next day. This was probably a good idea since Graham didn't really get past "opening" the first gift, but instead just played with the tissue paper. He got a lot of clothes which was a real treat since we were really tugging on his clothes to get them to snap or fit over his head. All the little man clothes were so cute. Dinosaurs, cars and turtles, oh my! He also got some very cool toys. He got one of those ride-on toys. Dad pushed him around the living room a couple of times. He picked his feet up and let Dad do all the work. As soon as his height catches up with his weight *fingers crossed*, I'm sure he'll be tooling around on that hardwood floor like a pro. Most of his new toys make noise and if they don't he'll find a way to make them noisy, so I know he will get years and years of fun out of them.
And now here's one of my favorite photos from the weekend. Thank you everyone for your good company, well wishes and generosity. Graham is a fortunate child to have so many people who were cheering for him as he tried to walk and clapping as we blew out his candle and bringing him gifts based on our ramblings about what G is into these days. It was so cool to celebrate his birthday with all of our friends and family, in life and in spirit.
