
Today I get to try out my first Father's Day gift, the New Braunfel's Hondo offset Smoker. This thing rocks! Up at 6:30 this morning to get the fire up and going... 90 minutes later we are settled in at a steady 220 degrees and I've thrown on my brisket and ribs. Later today I'll be adding some turkey and a pork tenderloin. In the middle of all of this will be my newly discovered ABT's (Atomic Buffalo Turds)... bacon wrapped jalepeno's stuffed with a cream cheese mixture. YUM!!
Why all the work, you wonder? Well after almost 4 years in Texas I've decided it's time to learn to make my own backyard BBQ, dry rub and smoked. So far it smells wonderful. I'll have to post tomorrow to let you know just how good it tastes.
On a side note, they ripped down the old house next to us the past two days. Lots of shaking and rattling, but we've got a vacant lot now instead of a rotting house. New home will be going up shortly. Yeah for our property value!!!
