Sitting, Finally!!

A baby sitting is a milestone. I wasn't sure if we were going to make it. I thought he'd go right to standing, oh, 7 - 8 months from now. You see, you know how you see a mom holding her baby in her lap? He may not be able to sit up on his own, but mom will hold him and he will sit there and wonder about his environment. Well, Graham has rarely ever done that. He arches his back and insists on either sliding straight down my leg or standing up while I hold him. Now, despite what I term MMF (mommy muscle fatigue), I am starting to get very good at holding him for long periods of time. However, 30 minutes of "sitting" with Graham feels like 30 minutes of sprinting with Graham.

So, yesterday, after blogging about his six month birthday, he sat. After he arched his back, I curved my back away from him and he used his stomach muscles to sit himself up. It was like an epiphany for him (and me, too). From then on, every time he tried arching his back, we repeated the process and he sat himself up slowly. Now he'll take his bottle, read and play a little sitting up. Oh, please let this one stick!
